EPIK AI App Climbs to the Top with Viral Yearbook Photo Feature

The AI app EPIK has recently taken the App Store by storm thanks to its unique feature that allows users to create nostalgic, 90s-themed “yearbook” photos. This surge in popularity is reminiscent of other recent AI apps that have gone viral.

Behind EPIK Success

Originating from the South Korean-based Snow Corporation, also responsible for the AI profile app Snow, EPIK has witnessed a download surge. This uptick is attributed to global influencers sharing AI-generated photos on various social media platforms.

On the U.S. App Store, EPIK proudly sits at No. 1, though its ranking on Google Play is currently at No. 37.

According to market intelligence firm Apptopia, since its launch in August 2021, EPIK has accumulated 92.3 million total lifetime installs, with 4.7 million downloads coming from the U.S. alone.

How EPIK Works

To utilize EPIK’s Yearbook feature, users are required to upload between 8-12 selfie images. The AI then processes these images to produce 60 distinct photos. While the app is free to download, users must pay to access the AI-generated results. Additionally, they can opt for faster delivery times at an extra cost.

However, EPIK’s soaring popularity has led to some operational hiccups. The app has struggled to meet the overwhelming demand, often displaying messages about delays or stating that delivery options are “sold out.”

AI Photo Apps: A Passing Trend?

EPIK is not the first of its kind to achieve viral status. Other AI photo apps, such as Lensa and Remini, have previously enjoyed their moments in the spotlight. However, sustaining this popularity has proven challenging for many. A report from Apptopia earlier this year highlighted that the initial buzz around AI photo editors, which began last winter, had already waned.

For EPIK, its current success might be short-lived as users continually seek the next big AI trend.

In conclusion, while EPIK’s yearbook photo feature has undoubtedly captured the attention of many, only time will tell if it can maintain its top position or if it will follow the trajectory of other AI apps that have faded after their initial surge in popularity.
